History of DGKMC
Dera Ghazi Khan abbreviated as D. G. Khan, is a city in the Punjab province of Pakistan. It is the 19th largest city of Pakistan by population. It is the headquarters of the Dera Ghazi Khan District and Dera Ghazi Khan Division.Dera Ghazi Khan is a mid-country city located on the junction of all the four provinces of Pakistan i.e., Sindh, Punjab, Balochistan, and Khayber Pukhtunkhwa. It had once been in the list of prospective capitals of Pakistan due to its prime strategic location. It has beautiful and unique landscapes including the river Indus, green fields, Pachad Desert and the Sulaiman Mountains. D. G. Khan Medical College was established in 2010. Initially, the classes were started at Quaid-e- Azam Medical College, Bahawalpur, which were shifted to the D. G. Khan on March, 2012. The Government of the Punjab has allocated 522 kanals of land for the construction of regular academic block and hostel building and expansion of attached 346-bedded DHQ Hospital, where all the major medical and surgical specialties including, Medicine, Surgery, Pediatrics, Gynecology, Eye, ENT, Cardiology, Psychiatry, Neurosurgery, Plastic Surgery, Orthopedics, Urology, Pediatric surgery and Gastroenterology etc., are available. The current and former students of the College are referred to as Ghazians.
The Institute of allied Health Sciences (IAHS) has been established in 2020 as a part of D. G. Khan Medical College & DHQ Teaching Hospital, Dera Ghazi Khan. The institute is currently offering three-degree programs (4 year) i.e., B. Sc. Medical Imaging Technology (MIT), B. Sc. Medical Laboratory Technology (MLT) and B. Sc. Operation Theatre Technology (OTT).The College of Nursing, D. G. Khan is also a part of D. G. Khan Medical College. This institute is currently offering 4-year B. Sc Nursing Degree.
